CommunityONE Bank Launches New Website
North Carolina-based CommunityONE Bank is known by its distinctive tagline: “Yes you can.” But these words are more than a marketing slogan; they represent the very core of the bank’s existence. “Yes” expresses a simple philosophy of putting customers first. It also serves as the bank’s promise to exceed expectations through better banking and outstanding service.
The quest for better banking recently prompted CommunityONE to implement several products from Banc Intranets. The goal was to improve productivity among its 522 employees and better manage costs. Last year, CommunityONE chose Banc Intranets as a single vendor that has the same content management engine for its Intranet, Web site, and Director’s Portal. The bank has seen its ROI for these solutions in less than one year. “We saved on reducing our paper costs,” said Chief Information Officer Dave Miller. “We definitely saved on employees’ time and were also able to defer hiring additional employees.”
As another plus, Banc Intranets provided customer service that met and exceeded the bank’s high standards. Project Manager Vicky Garner characterized Banc Intranets as the “best” Web software development vendor with which she has ever worked. She said: “Banc Intranets” support is second-to-none; they fix the problem while I am on the phone with them. I am not placed in some queue and called back in a week.”
Garner also appreciates the relevancy and user-friendly nature of Banc Intranets’ software solutions. “Their solutions are financial-specific and very easy to use,” she said.
Thanks to Banc Intranets’ products, CommunityONE can quickly and easily manage its content internally. Employees can search the content management system to easily locate policies, procedures and other information. Having immediate access to manuals, marketing data and product specifications, and other information empowers employees to make better and faster decisions. In addition, leveraging technology saves employees time, reduces paper and printing costs, and creates a competitive advantage. These benefits all add up to improving the bank’s operations—and bottom line.
A History of Growth Improving operations has been a constant goal of CommunityONE since its 1907 inception. As such, the bank has established a long history of growth over the years. CommunityONE began as First National Bank of Asheboro, and received its national charter on December 4, 1907. It was organized with total authorized capital of $25,000 and resources of $48,343 as of January 14, 1908.
In the 1960s, the bank began opening offices throughout Randolph County. In 1976, the bank changed its name to First National Bank of Randolph County to reflect its expanded footprint. By 1990, the bank had expanded its operations into the surrounding counties and became First National Bank and Trust Company.
A number of mergers took place between 2000 and 2006, further expanding the bank’s geographic reach. In 2006, the name of its holding company was changed to FNB United Corp. to reflect the growth and cohesiveness created through the mergers. Finally, in June 2007, the bank became CommunityONE to serve the financial lives of its customers and communities under a single powerful name. The new name better reflects the bank’s geographic presence, as well as its distinct culture.
“We wanted a name that was unique from our competition; a name that better fits our personality, culture and brand promise of Yes You Can; and a name that embraces and embodies the diverse sum of our collective parts,” said Michael C. Miller, who is currently president and chief executive officer of FNB United and CommunityONE.
He added: "Our name has served us well for the past 100 years, and we look forward to a new century of service as CommunityONE."
Today, CommunityONE operates 45 offices in 38 outstanding communities throughout central, southern and western North Carolina. CommunityONE has more than $2 billion in assets. Its holding company, FNB United, is publicly traded on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol FNBN.
